Colombia freezes recognition of "rasd" and supports Morocco at UN Security Council

This decision follows a sovereign review of the recognition granted by the previous government, considering that the "rasd" is not recognized by the United Nations as a member state. This move is part of strengthening the strategic partnership between Colombia and Morocco. The Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that there will be no political or diplomatic contact, exchange of missions, or support for the "rasd" in multilateral forums, including the United Nations and the Security Council, where Colombia currently holds a non-permanent seat.

Bogota emphasized that this decision fully respects international law, the UN Charter, and the framework outlined by Security Council Resolution 2797 2025 concerning the Sahara issue. This reorientation also confirms Colombia's desire to revitalize its relations with Morocco, a partner for nearly fifty years, based on a long-term vision to build a renewed relationship that serves the interests of both peoples. The new dynamic between Rabat and Bogota will focus on ambitious and concrete cooperation, with significant potential for trade, investment promotion, tourism, food security, port and logistics development, and strengthening Atlantic connectivity.
