Christopher Deutsch appointed new US Consul General in Casablanca

The American diplomatic mission announced his appointment on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. A career diplomat, Deutsch brings decades of experience from the US Foreign Service, having previously managed regional affairs and strategic engagement for the US in the Middle East at the State Department in Washington. His diplomatic career includes postings in Yemen, Iraq, Egypt, Italy, and Haiti.

In Casablanca, Deutsch will oversee the daily operations of the US Consulate General, aligning with the strategic directives of the US Embassy in Rabat and broader American diplomatic priorities in the Kingdom. He plans to focus on strengthening relationships with local partners and enhancing economic exchanges. Deutsch stated, "Our partnership with Morocco is one of the oldest and most enduring alliances of the United States."

He also expressed his commitment to fostering trade, investment, and cooperation in education and culture. Deutsch holds a history degree from Yale University and a master's in public policy from Princeton University, and is proficient in Arabic, French, Italian, Spanish, and Haitian Creole.
