Chinese car brands double market share by July 2026 as electrified vehicles gain traction

For the first seven months of the year, total registrations reached 152,486, up 15.7% compared to the same period in 2025. Passenger cars accounted for 18,085 units in July 2026, a 2.1% increase year-on-year, while light commercial vehicles saw a significant 32.3% rise, selling 2,653 units. Electrified vehicles represented 17% of passenger car registrations from January to July 2026, up from 10.5% a year prior, with 22,963 units registered, an 86.3% increase.

Plug-in hybrids PHEV showed the strongest growth, with sales up 145%, and mild hybrids MHEV increased by 70.4%. Fully electric vehicles BEV doubled their sales, with 1,213 units registered, and an additional 1,402 range-extended electric vehicles REEV were sold. Chinese brands significantly increased their market presence, accounting for 11.2% of passenger car registrations from January to July 2026, up from 5.1% in the same period of 2025, selling 15,161 units.
