Gabon's Boulevard de la Transition project sees cost double to 16 billion FCFA, foreign operator flees
The accelerated resumption of work on Gabon's Boulevard de la Transition project has brought to light significant irregularities, with the initial contract value of 8 billion FCFA reportedly increasing to 16 billion FCFA. According to information from the Presidency's Taskforce, a technical and financial review revealed serious anomalies. A foreign operator, identified as Goran, allegedly received approximately 3 billion FCFA without providing a bank guarantee to the state and has since left Gabon. Goran was reportedly questioned by the B2, where he admitted to "serious errors" before departing the country. Suspicions have arisen regarding potential complicity that may have facilitated his exit. The case has been referred to the prosecutor to establish facts, determine responsibilities, and investigate potential offenses. The Taskforce is now closely monitoring the construction site, urging SOCO-TP to accelerate progress by supplying materials, reinforcing equipment, and continuing night work. Instructions from the Head of State mandate that a specific section of the boulevard reach the impregnation phase by September 1, 2026.
