
Burkina Faso President meets with U20 national team after UFOA-B victory, promises new support approach
Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Burkina Faso, met with the U20 national football team, the "Étalons U20," in Ouagadougou on Monday, August 17, 2026. The team had won the UFOA-B tournament on August 9 in Yamoussoukro. President Traoré congratulated the young players and the technical staff for their performance, stating that their victory brought pride to the nation. He urged the team to maintain discipline and focus for future competitions, including the CAN U20 2027 in Ghana. The President also announced a new approach to supporting national teams, emphasizing a reorganization to better assist this generation of players. The Minister of Sports, Youth, and Employment, Annick Pikbougoum/Zingue Ouattara, highlighted the team's achievements at the tournament, which included four wins, one draw, four Man of the Match titles, the best goalkeeper award, and qualification for the upcoming CAN U20. Chérif Badra Ali Barro, captain of the Étalons U20, thanked the Head of State for his support and reaffirmed the team's commitment to representing Burkina Faso well in Ghana.
