CDD Fellow supports OSP, calls for sustained fight against corruption

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Dr. Osae-Kwapong questioned alternatives to an independent anti-corruption institution, noting that Ghana's Fourth Republic often sees accountability efforts only after a change in government. He explained that this pattern forces reliance on elections to trigger investigations and accountability. Civil society organizations support the OSP's establishment to break this cycle, as weakening it could revert Ghana to a system where accountability depends on political administration changes.

Dr. Osae-Kwapong also cited the Agyapa controversy, where foreign legal proceedings led to calls for local action, highlighting the need for Ghanaian authorities to act to protect public confidence. Regarding the OSP naming five persons of interest in an alleged $1 million bribery case linked to the Accelerated Social Housing and Affordable Housing Project ASKA, he cautioned against assuming guilt, explaining that these individuals might simply have relevant information or require further scrutiny. He emphasized that the goal is to establish facts and ensure accountability for unlawful conduct.
