Captain Kofi Amoabeng explains refusal of Finance Minister role under Rawlings

Captain Amoabeng, who was the only Chartered Accountant in the Ghana military at the time, had recently returned from the UK after pursuing a course at the Royal Army Pay Corps on a Ministry of Defence scholarship. He stated that while he admired Rawlings' courage, he was fundamentally opposed to the coup that brought Rawlings to power, as it conflicted with his belief in institutions, structure, and constitutional order. Captain Amoabeng also cited the uncertain political and military environment, where individuals could become targets based on perceived political loyalties, as a reason for his decision to keep a low profile, resign from the military, and decline the ministerial appointment.
