Seyi Makinde selects former SSS Director-General Lawal Daura as 2027 running mate
Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate for the Allied Peoples Movement APM, has announced Lawal Daura, former Director-General of the State Security Service SSS, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election. Daura, who served as SSS director-general from 2015 to 2018, was chosen to address Nigeria's security challenges, according to a statement from Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade. Makinde was formally elected as the APM presidential candidate at the party's national convention in Bauchi. He pledged to collaborate with politicians who share his vision for national improvement and to lift Nigerians out of poverty, attributing current economic issues to poorly implemented policies over the past three years. Makinde noted the significance of Bauchi as the convention venue, being the home state of Nigeria's first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.
