Burkina Faso mobilizes 151.5 billion CFA francs through its first "Patriot Bond" issuance

The two bonds from this operation, named "Diaspora Bonds," are now listed on the BRVM, marking a new phase in mobilizing diaspora savings for national development. The official launch of the operation was on May 6, 2026, with subscriptions closing on June 6, achieving a subscription rate of 121.2%. The amount is divided into two tranches: 45 billion CFA francs with a five-year maturity and a 6.75% annual interest rate, and 80 billion CFA francs over seven years with a 6.85% rate.

Patindé Jean Yves Belem, Director General of the Treasury and Public Accounting of Burkina Faso, highlighted that the listing offers subscribers the ability to trade their bonds on a regulated regional market, thereby deepening and enhancing the liquidity of the regional financial market. Dr. Edoh Kossi Amenounvé, Director General of the BRVM, emphasized that this operation represents a strategic choice to mobilize diaspora savings through the UEMOA regional financial market, demonstrating the potential of an informed diaspora as an economic and financial force.
