
Burkinabe and Chinese doctors discuss traditional medicine valorization in Ouagadougou
The Association of Burkinabe Alumni of China AABC organized a Sino-Burkinabe tea-debate in Ouagadougou on August 19, 2026, to celebrate Chinese Doctors' Day. The event focused on valuing traditional medicine, with the theme: "Chinese and Burkinabe traditional medicines: what lessons from the Chinese model to value endogenous knowledge and strengthen our health system?" The gathering featured demonstrations and experience sharing, allowing Chinese and Burkinabe doctors to discuss various traditional medical practices and ways to better value endogenous knowledge. Oumar Dicko, president of the AABC, expressed hope to leverage Chinese experience to value Burkina Faso's traditional knowledge. He noted that the tea-debate is a monthly event for exchanges between the two peoples. Mr. Xi Wei, economic counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Burkina Faso, highlighted the significance of Chinese Doctors' Day, emphasizing doctors' role as guardians of life and transmitters of peace and friendship. He advocated for health cooperation between Burkina Faso and China to promote medical professionalism and build a Sino-Burkinabe health community.
