Nairobi Governor Sakaja launches KSh 2 billion drainage works ahead of El Ni帽o rains
Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson has initiated a KSh 2.4 billion multi-agency program to address potential flooding from anticipated El Ni帽o rains. Of this, KSh 2 billion is specifically allocated for drainage and flood-mitigation works across 19 flood-prone roads. Governor Sakaja toured areas like the Mombasa Road-Bunyala Junction corridor and Globe roundabout, confirming that drainage works are underway. The program involves various agencies including the Kenya Red Cross, Kenya Urban Roads Authority, and Kenya National Highways Authority. Five specialized sub-committees have been formed to manage infrastructure and drainage, emergency response, shelter and relief, security and traffic, and communication. Sakaja urged residents to remain alert, cooperate with authorities, and keep drainage areas clear. The multi-agency team is scheduled to meet again next week to review progress.
