Central Kenya families share experiences with Social Health Authority, noting reduced reliance on community fundraising
Three families in Central Kenya have shared their experiences with the Social Health Authority SHA, highlighting its role in managing medical treatment costs and reducing the need for community fundraising. Joyce Wambui from Mathira stated that SHA covered approximately KSh 115,000 of her child's KSh 118,000 hospital bill. Anne Wanjiru from Kieni reported that her daughter received scans, medication, and financial support for her hospital bill through SHA. In Sagana, fruit vendor Baba Fahim recounted how SHA supported his family after his wife sustained broken ribs in a hit-and-run accident, covering her treatment and admission. All three families acknowledged the benefits of SHA but urged the government to address medicine shortages in public hospitals to ensure beneficiaries can access necessary services.
