RMAFC concludes revenue formula and judicial pay reviews, advances executive and legislative remuneration updates
The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission RMAFC has completed its review of Nigeria鈥檚 Revenue Allocation Formula, setting the stage for a new framework for distributing revenues among the Federal, state, and local governments. The commission also finalized the review of remuneration for judicial office holders, leading to the enactment of the Judicial Office Holders Salaries and Allowances Act, 2025. According to RMAFC Chairman Mohammed Bello Shehu, the review of salaries and allowances for executive and legislative office holders is in an advanced stage, with an executive bill on the Political and Public Office Holders Salaries and Allowances Act, 2026, expected to be sent to the National Assembly. These developments aim to create a more equitable and sustainable revenue-sharing system and address concerns about public office holders' remuneration, emphasizing that improved pay must be linked to better service delivery. Beyond these reviews, RMAFC has intensified monitoring of oil and gas production data to ensure accurate application of the 13 percent derivation principle, including reallocating 17 oil wells from Imo State to Rivers State based on a Supreme Court judgment. The commission is also collaborating with various agencies to improve revenue monitoring, resolve attribution disputes, and combat crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
