
UBA welcomes Emmanuel Nnorom as new Group Chairman, succeeding Tony Elumelu
United Bank for Africa Plc has announced Emmanuel Nnorom as its new Group Chairman, following the retirement of Tony Elumelu. Nnorom officially assumed the role on August 21, 2026. He is described as a seasoned business leader and chartered accountant with over four decades of experience. Nnorom has a long history with the UBA Group, having served in various senior leadership positions including Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UBA Africa, Group Chief Operating Officer, and Group Chief Financial Officer. He also previously served as a Non-Executive Director on the UBA board. His appointment comes as UBA continues its growth across Africa and beyond. Elumelu retired after completing the maximum tenure for non-executive directors under Central Bank of Nigeria corporate governance guidelines. Outside UBA, Nnorom has held senior positions at Transnational Corporation Plc and Heirs Holdings, and in other financial institutions like Standard Trust Bank, Diamond Bank, NUB International Bank, and Liberty Merchant Bank. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and an Honorary Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.
