Zawia's Al-Harsha water desalination plant hit by drone, North Zawia Municipality calls for international investigation
Zawia's Al-Harsha Water Desalination Plant was hit by a drone, following a previous attack on the Zawia Oil Refinery. The drone strike caused a puncture in at least one main pipeline, rendering the water plant inoperable. The plant serves Zawia Centre, North Zawia, West Zawia Al-Harsha and Al-Mutrad, and Surman Dahman areas. The North Zawia Municipality condemned the attacks and called for a full local and international investigation. The Crisis Committee of the West Zawia Municipality conducted a field inspection to assess the damage to the plant's main pipelines and storage tank. A detailed report is being prepared for the Mayor to initiate repairs and restore water supplies. The North Zawia Municipal Council demanded an immediate and independent international investigation into the origin and operators of the armed drones, holding the Security Council and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya UNSMIL responsible for the failure of arms embargo mechanisms. They also called upon the sanctions committee established pursuant to Resolution 1970 to investigate potential violations of the arms embargo.
