Bawumia urges Afenyo-Markin to pursue alleged GH¢1.7 billion GoldBod loss

During the meeting, Dr. Bawumia encouraged Afenyo-Markin to remain focused on investigating an alleged GH¢1.7 billion loss related to the operations of the Ghana Gold Board GoldBod and the Bank of Ghana. Afenyo-Markin stated that Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence in his leadership and cautioned against attempts to distract from the issue, which he noted was equivalent to 1.5% of Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product, a figure confirmed by the International Monetary Fund’s August 2026 report. Dr. Bawumia also called on the Minority to use parliamentary rules to hold the government accountable for this loss.

Afenyo-Markin assured Dr. Bawumia that the Minority would continue to pursue the matter, stating it remains a key issue on their agenda as Parliament reconvenes.
