SpaceX plans $100 billion Starship launch facility in Louisiana
SpaceX announced plans to construct a $100 billion facility in Vermillion Parish, Louisiana, for launching its Starship megarockets. The company stated that the new "Starbase, Louisiana" will create over 3,000 new jobs, with construction slated to begin next year. This facility is intended to support thousands of Starship flights annually, with the first launch anticipated in 2029. SpaceX aims for Starbase Louisiana to eventually feature over a dozen launch towers, enabling more than 30 Starship flights daily, making it the largest launch site globally. The company also committed to significant efforts to preserve the coastline and protect local wildlife in Louisiana. The Louisiana Economic Development agency indicated that the average salary for workers at the facility would be 192 percent higher than the region's current average wage. Starship, currently under development at a Texas facility, is designed for missions to the Moon and Mars.
