Arab Cinema Center names Vincenzo Bugno inaugural Gamechanger of the Year

This new honor recognizes individuals who are redefining the landscape of Arab and global cinema. Bugno will be celebrated on May 16th at the Plage des Palmes during the Cannes Marché du Film, as part of the 10th Critics Awards for Arab Films. The award acknowledges Bugno's contributions to international cinema and his support for Arab filmmaking, particularly through his leadership of the World Cinema Fund at the Berlinale.

Under his direction, the World Cinema Fund became a significant force in supporting independent films from regions with limited access to production and distribution, including the Arab World. Bugno's approach emphasizes authenticity and the belief that "the more local, the more international," which has guided his support for Arab filmmakers. He has been instrumental in bringing Arab voices to global audiences, supporting films such as SOUAD by Ayten Amin, COMING FORTH BY DAY by Hala Lotfy, TALKING ABOUT TREES by Suhaib Gasmelbari, and FOUR DAUGHTERS by Kaouther Ben Hania.

Bugno's engagement with Arab cinema also includes his role in shaping the Middle East focus of Open Doors at the Locarno Film Festival in 2007.
