Allied People's Movement criticizes Presidency over attack on Cardinal Onaiyekan and calls for President Tinubu's withdrawal

The party condemned what it described as attacks by the Presidency on John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja Catholic Diocese, for his comments on the country's economic situation. The APM, through its National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf, stated that these attacks reflect an intolerance of dissent and an unwillingness by the Federal Government to address the concerns of Nigerians. The party argued that religious leaders should be respected for speaking on national issues, as their remarks reflect the realities faced by millions of Nigerians grappling with rising living costs and insecurity.

The APM accused the government of resorting to personal attacks instead of engaging with concerns raised by respected citizens and faith leaders. The party urged President Tinubu to apologize to Cardinal Onaiyekan and other religious leaders, emphasizing that democracy thrives on dialogue and constructive engagement rather than silencing critical voices. The APM called on the Federal Government to focus on policies to tackle hunger, improve security, and restore public confidence.
