Algerian government sets 2026 deadline for reactivation of industrial units recovered from corruption cases
The Algerian government aims to complete the recovery and reactivation of industrial assets seized in corruption cases by the end of 2026. Minister of Industry Yahia Bachir announced this deadline during a working visit to Annaba, stating that precise dates have been set for December 31, 2026, to finalize the process. This initiative involves integrating dozens of industrial assets into public ownership and reintroducing them into the economic circuit. While a new numerical assessment was not provided, Minister Bachir confirmed that a significant portion of these units has already been recovered. The objective is to preserve production capacities and associated jobs. This aligns with statements made by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, who emphasized that the recovery of assets from corruption cases and their reintegration into the national economy are priorities of the presidential five-year term. The government intends to execute final court decisions and reactivate confiscated industrial units. Examples of recovered assets include the Safia cooking oil production plant, now part of the Agrodiv public group, and the Khemis El-Khechna sugar refinery, transferred to the Madar public group.
