
Abdelkrim Fergat wins Algeria's first gold medal at Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games
Algerian wrestler Abdelkrim Fergat secured Algeria's first gold medal at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games. Competing in the 60 kg Greco-Roman wrestling category, Fergat decisively defeated Egyptian opponent Mahmoud Saad in the final with a score of 10-1. This victory marks Algeria's initial gold at the twentieth edition of the games. The article highlights that Greco-Roman wrestling consistently contributes to Algeria's medal count in regional competitions. In boxing, Isma茂l Bekhsis advanced to the quarterfinals in the under 65 kg category by defeating Italy's David Fiore. However, Mohamed Walid Allaoui was eliminated in the round of 16 in the under 60 kg category.
