Algeria to export 100,000 tons of construction materials to Mauritania

This initiative is part of a new partnership between Algeria's national maritime company, CNAN El Djazaïr, and the Mauritanian General Services Arab Company. The agreement seeks to establish regular and sustainable maritime freight transport, addressing the logistical challenges and high costs associated with trans-Saharan land transport. The primary goal is to facilitate the shipment of construction materials to Mauritania and other West African destinations.

This collaboration also intends to secure supply chains for Algerian exporters by ensuring more predictable and structured maritime routes. Beyond construction materials, both parties plan to expand these links to the agri-food sector, utilizing temperature-controlled containers for perishable goods. CNAN El Djazaïr already operates nine vessels on this corridor, providing monthly rotations to ports like Nouakchott, Nouadhibou, and Dakar.

This logistical enhancement offers a competitive alternative to road transport and is envisioned as a two-way channel, potentially increasing the supply of seafood from Mauritanian coasts to the Algerian market.
