MC Alger reaches agreement with Youcef Belaïli, awaits CAS decision on FIFA suspension
MC Alger has finalized an agreement with Youcef Belaïli for his return to the club for the 2026/2027 season, with financial terms reportedly including a monthly salary of 65,000 euros paid in euros. This remuneration structure has generated debate within the Algerian Professional League 1, as it is considered a substantial amount and an unusual payment currency for local football. The club's new recruitment policy, backed by Sonatrach's budgetary guarantees, aims to attract high-profile players, as previously seen with the pursuit of Adam Ounas. Despite the agreement, Belaïli's official signing is contingent on a decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport CAS in Lausanne. The player is currently serving a twelve-month international suspension imposed by FIFA in March 2026, stemming from a dispute with AC Ajaccio over contract termination and document authenticity. This suspension prevents him from participating in official competitions until March 2027, according to the initial timeline. MC Alger has stated it is awaiting the CAS verdict, which could reduce or overturn the ban, before proceeding with the contract. A favorable CAS decision would not only allow Belaïli to join MC Alger but also potentially enable his participation with the Algerian national team. Belaïli, who is 33, chose not to extend his contract with Espérance de Tunis, despite their public support following the FIFA sanction.
