AHF Nigeria launches HIV and TB media reporting project for journalists

The initiative aims to promote ethical and solutions-focused reporting on HIV and tuberculosis in affected communities. Senior Advocacy and Marketing Manager, Steve Aborisade, stated that the project will support journalists in Abuja, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Benue, Cross River, Kogi, and Nasarawa states to create human-centered stories. These stories will focus on promoting testing, treatment uptake, and public accountability.

Applications close on August 31, 2026. The project seeks to equip journalists with the necessary knowledge and access to produce accurate, stigma-free reports that highlight the voices of people living with HIV and TB survivors. At least seven journalists will be selected for the pilot edition, each expected to publish two in-depth feature or investigative stories.

Reporting will cover stigma reduction, ethical representation, person-first language, and accountability issues such as treatment access and budget performance. Shortlisted journalists will be notified on September 14, 2026, with selection criteria including story pitch strength, work samples, journalism experience, gender diversity, and editor support.
