Accra experiences triple disaster of floods, fire, and building collapse on June 3, 2026

Heavy rainfall led to severe flooding in areas such as Kaneshie Market, Ashaiman, Nkrumah Circle, and Pantang, disrupting traffic and causing property damage. Concurrently, a two-storey apartment building collapsed in Adenta New Site during the downpour, trapping five people. The Ghana National Fire Service reported that four individuals were rescued and transported to the 37 Military Hospital, while efforts were underway to retrieve the body of a 38-year-old woman identified as Margaret, who was the mother of two of the rescued individuals.

Preliminary investigations suggested structural issues with the collapsed building. Additionally, multiple shops in Accra Central, near the Makola area, caught fire. Firefighters were deployed to contain the blaze, which was described as "very dire," and one officer sustained injuries.

The Ghana Police Service confirmed no casualties from the fire and initiated investigations into its cause. This series of events occurred exactly 11 years after a similar twin disaster of floods and fire struck Accra on June 3.
