Botswana faces surge in wildfires, 336,231 hectares burned between April and July
Botswana experienced a significant increase in wildfires between April and July, with approximately 336,231 hectares burned across the country. This area is more than double the size of Gaborone and represents a 179% increase compared to the same period last year, when 120,410.50 hectares were affected. Authorities are preparing for a potentially more severe wildfire season due to extensive vegetation growth from recent heavy rains and the anticipated El Ni帽o phenomenon.
