Nigeria and China strengthen creative ties with film and literature exchange agreement
Nigeria and China have enhanced their cultural and creative cooperation through a strategic agreement signed between the China Movie Channel and the Nigerian Television Authority. This agreement, formalized at the China-Nigeria Film and Literature Symposium in Abuja, aims to boost content exchange, film co-productions, professional training, and people-to-people exchanges. Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, highlighted the partnership as a milestone in the growing relationship between the two countries, especially as they mark 55 years of diplomatic ties. He noted that the agreement would advance cultural exchanges and provide a platform for greater collaboration between Chinese and Nigerian filmmakers and creative professionals, supporting the Global Civilization Initiative. Dunhai also pointed out the strength of both nations' creative industries, with China producing over 700 films annually and Nigeria's Nollywood being the world's second-largest film industry. Literary exchanges have also flourished, with Nigerian authors gaining popularity in China and Chinese literary works attracting Nigerian readers. Abdulkarim Ibrahim, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, stated that the cooperation would create opportunities for co-productions, knowledge sharing, skills development, technology transfer, and increased international visibility for creative talents.
