President Duma Boko celebrates major energy deal with Oman

President Duma Boko celebrated a significant economic achievement with the groundbreaking of Botswana's largest renewable energy project, which includes the first utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System BESS. The project, with a capacity of 500 megawatts, progressed from initial discussions in October 2025 to groundbreaking in April, a speed that President Boko highlighted as a success for his administration. The President of Oman’s $53 billion sovereign wealth fund was present at the event. President Boko emphasized the hard work involved in securing this energy deal and criticized those who expressed negativity about the initiative. This project is seen as a key part of his administration's focus on execution and removing bottlenecks during its second year in office.
