Namibian Competition Commission investigates Rani Group and six consumer goods companies
The Namibian Competition Commission has launched an investigation into Rani Group and six major consumer goods companies following complaints from small retailers. The retailers allege that suppliers reserve stock for Rani Group, charge them higher prices, demand upfront payments, and exclude them from discounts. Rani Group operates a chain of supermarkets in northern Namibia. The six companies under investigation are Namib Mills, Bokomo Namibia, Coca-Cola Namibia Bottling Company, Distell Namibia, Namibia Breweries, and Anheuser-Busch InBev Namibia. Small retailers also claim that Rani Group opened outlets near their shops, leading to business closures. The commission will investigate potential breaches of the Competition Act, which addresses abuse of dominance and unfair trading conditions. The companies have 30 days to respond, and the NaCC is inviting public information related to the allegations.
