Sokoto approves N1.76bn for 1,000 motorcycles to boost security operations
The Sokoto State Government has approved N1.759 billion for the purchase of 1,000 Bajaj motorcycles. These motorcycles will be distributed to security agencies to enhance their fight against banditry and improve security operations throughout the state. This decision was made during the sixth regular meeting of the Sokoto State Executive Council for 2026, chaired by Deputy Governor Idris Muhammad Gobir. The motorcycles are intended to complement the 62 armored vehicles recently acquired by the state government for N27 billion and distributed to security agencies. According to Abubakar Bawa, Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, the motorcycles will improve the mobility of security personnel, especially in challenging terrains and banditry-affected communities. This procurement is part of the state government's efforts to provide necessary logistics for security agencies to combat criminal activities effectively. The council also approved significant funds for various other projects, including N723.17 million for the renovation of Government Technical College, Runjin Sambo, and other educational facility rehabilitations. Additionally, N133.67 million was approved for healthcare infrastructure, N93.88 million for vocational learning equipment, and N90.21 million for water supply scheme maintenance. These approvals underscore the government's commitment to enhancing security and investing in critical infrastructure and human development.
