Vice President Shettima urges investment in Nigeria, citing economic reforms and growth opportunities

Speaking at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 in Asaba, Shettima stated that President Bola Tinubu's administration's economic reforms have boosted investor confidence, stabilized the macroeconomy, and fostered an environment conducive to long-term investments. He noted that every Nigerian state has unique strengths for economic growth and should compete to attract job-creating investments. Shettima cited recent upgrades by Fitch Ratings, S&P Global Ratings, and Moody’s as evidence of increasing international confidence in Nigeria's economy.

He described Delta State as a "first-order investment destination" due to its commitment to economic diversification, strategic coastline, ports, natural gas reserves, refining assets, agricultural potential, blue economy opportunities, and solid mineral deposits. Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori announced a $100 million Viability Gap Funding to de-risk private sector investments and attract strategic global partnerships. He highlighted Delta's estimated ₦17 trillion economy, abundant natural resources, improving infrastructure, sound fiscal management, and investor-friendly policies, including tax incentives and an Ease of Doing Business Council.
