Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, known as Ogogo, dies at 66

His daughter, Kira Taiwo, confirmed the news. Hassan, born on October 31, 1959, in Ilaro, Ogun State, began his acting career in 1981 while also working as an automobile mechanic and for the Lagos State Water Corporation. He resigned from his government job in 1994 to focus fully on acting, a career that spanned over four decades.

Beyond acting, Ogogo was also a producer, director, and screenwriter, contributing to stories rooted in Yoruba culture and social themes. He featured in numerous productions, including "Owo Blow," "Omo Ghetto," and "Aníkúlápó." His role as Alaafin Ademuyiwa in the 2022 Netflix film "Aníkúlápó" introduced him to a wider audience and earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

Days before his death, his daughters revealed he was battling stage-four cancer, and Nollywood colleagues held a prayer session for him.
