Osun Governor to establish inquiry into extrajudicial killings after election
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke announced that an independent commission of inquiry will be formed on Monday, August 18, immediately following the August 15 governorship election. The commission will investigate reported cases of extrajudicial killings and other acts of violence that occurred during the election period. Governor Adeleke, whose speech was read by the state Commissioner for Information Kolapo Alimi, extended condolences to the families of victims and emphasized that politics should not lead to loss of life. The commission's mandate will be to establish the circumstances surrounding these incidents and recommend appropriate actions to ensure justice for all responsible, regardless of political affiliation. The government also plans to create a framework to support and compensate the affected families. This initiative comes amidst reports of alleged extrajudicial killings in Osun State, with suspected cultists reportedly operating under political influence.
