Nigerian Army repels ISWAP attack on Borno base, recovers weapons
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled a simultaneous attack by Islamic State of West Africa Province ISWAP members on a Forward Operating Base in Mandaragirau, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, in the early hours of Saturday. The Nigerian Army stated that its troops detected the advancing terrorists through early warning systems and deployed a combat team to intercept them. According to Captain Muhammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, the terrorists suffered several casualties, while no Nigerian Army personnel were harmed. The attack, which occurred around 02:00 hours on August 15, 2026, involved assaults from two fronts. Troops engaged the attackers, leading to a heavy exchange of fire and the decisive defeat of the terrorists. A second group attempting to bypass the ambush was also met with superior firepower and defeated. The coordinated response forced the insurgents to withdraw, and troops pursued them, recovering equipment including AK-47 rifles, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, and a camcorder. Surveillance footage reportedly showed terrorists dragging away bodies of their killed cohorts. The Army commended the troops' readiness, courage, and professionalism, affirming Operation Hadin Kai's commitment to dominating the battlespace and restoring peace in the North-East.
