Gabon commemorates third anniversary of National Liberation Day, President Nguema emphasizes meritocracy and national sovereignty
Gabon marked the third anniversary of National Liberation Day on Sunday, August 30, 2026, commemorating President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema's assumption of power following the controversial elections of former President Ali Bongo. This day, established under the Vth Republic after the November 2024 constitutional referendum, signifies a "historical and political turning point" in national refoundation and is now the country's second major national holiday alongside Independence Day on August 17.
