Senegalese Football Federation to submit shortlist for new national team coach to Sports Ministry
The Senegalese Football Federation FSF has compiled a three-candidate shortlist to replace Pape Thiaw as the national team coach. This list will be presented to the Ministry of Sports for consultation and validation of financial and sporting priorities before official negotiations begin. The selection committee, led by Abdoulaye Fall, has been meticulously reviewing profiles. Among the prominent names is Patrick Vieira, former French international and coach of clubs like New York City FC, Nice, Crystal Palace, Strasbourg, and Genoa. Vieira, born in Dakar, is considered a strong candidate due to his international legitimacy and tactical rigor, despite his current preference for club management. The FSF has also included Omar Daf, a former player from Senegal's 2002 golden generation, known for his local expertise and knowledge of Senegalese football. Although Daf recently joined Congo as an assistant coach, his return to Senegal is not ruled out. Hervé Renard, a French coach with a prestigious continental record, including two Africa Cup of Nations titles with Zambia and Ivory Coast, is also on the shortlist. However, his chances of coaching Senegal appear slim as the Ivorian Football Federation is actively pursuing him to return to lead their national team following Emerse Faé's recent departure.
