STEG announces planned power outages across multiple regions today
The Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas STEG announced on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, that it may implement rolling power cuts in numerous regions across the country. These outages are scheduled between 1:30 PM and 5:00 PM and could last up to two hours per interruption. STEG explained this exceptional measure is necessary to preserve the "security and sustainability" of the electrical grid. The cuts will be carried out intermittently, depending on the network's status and the need to balance electricity production and consumption. Areas in Greater Tunis, Cap Bon, Zaghouan, Bizerte, the Northwest, Centre and Sahel, Sfax, Gab猫s, Djerba, Kebili, Tataouine, Zarzis, Ben Guerdane, Medenine, and the Southwest are among those that may be affected. STEG noted that this list is not exhaustive and other areas could be impacted based on the network's evolving situation and the imperative to balance production and consumption. Electricity restoration may occur without prior notice, and the company advises customers to take necessary precautions during the announced period.
