IOM facilitates voluntary return of 127 Guinean migrants from Tunisia, bringing 2026 total to over 4,300
The International Organization for Migration IOM facilitated the voluntary return of 127 Guinean nationals from Tunisia to their home country on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. This operation brings the total number of migrants supported by the IOM's Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration AVRR program to over 4,305 since the beginning of 2026. The group of 127 Guinean migrants included 88 men, 17 women, and 22 children. Diakit茅 Z茅nab, administrative assistant at the Consulate of the Republic of Guinea in Tunisia, expressed her emotion and gratitude for the operation, highlighting that it represents a new beginning for the returnees. Before their departure, beneficiaries received assistance such as counseling, travel arrangements, and support with administrative and medical procedures. The IOM emphasizes that its program extends beyond travel, providing reintegration assistance tailored to migrants' profiles, needs, and aspirations to facilitate their socio-economic re-establishment in their home communities. Several beneficiaries shared their plans, including Mamadi, who hopes to resume his work as a mechanic after three years in Tunisia, and A茂ssatou, who looks forward to reuniting with her mother after ten years and expressed gratitude for the support received during her pregnancy and childbirth.
