Gold prices in Tunisia projected to reach 500 dinars per gram by late 2026
Gold prices in Tunisia are expected to increase by 15% to 20% by the end of 2026, potentially reaching 470 to 500 dinars per gram for ready-to-sell gold, up from approximately 420 dinars for some simple jewelry currently. This projection was made by Hatem Ben Youssef, president of the National Chamber of Jewelers, during an interview on Diwan Fm on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. The current price for a gram of 18-carat raw gold is 323.140 dinars, according to the Central Bank of Tunisia's reference rate. Ben Youssef attributes this upward trend to global uncertainties, including geopolitical tensions and regional and international conflicts, which enhance gold's appeal as a safe-haven asset. Additionally, major powers such as China, India, Russia, and several Gulf countries are increasing their gold purchases to boost reserves and investments. He also noted that some economic blocs are seeking to reduce their reliance on the dollar in trade, exploring alternative valuation and exchange instruments, with gold playing an increasingly significant role. Ben Youssef advises Tunisians considering buying gold not to delay, as current market indicators suggest continued price increases in the coming months.
