TLP-Gabon demands truth and justice ten years after 2016 post-election violence

The coalition states that no lasting reconciliation can be built on silence, emphasizing that the events of August 31, 2016, which included deaths, injuries, arrests, disappearances, and trauma, remain a dark chapter in the country's recent history. Blanche Simonny Abegue, national coordinator of TLP-Gabon, asserts that ignoring or trivializing these events betrays the fight for democracy and the rule of law. TLP-Gabon is demanding the opening of all necessary investigations, access to case files, and that justice be rendered without prescription or oblivion.

The organization questions who gave the orders, what responsibilities have been established, where the victims' bodies are, and what trials have been held, noting that these questions remain unanswered. To keep the victims in collective memory, TLP-Gabon is launching a campaign called "10 years, 10 faces" to give a name and story to each victim. The coalition also plans to approach national and international bodies to prevent the case from falling into "institutional oblivion," stressing that there can be no lasting national reconciliation without judicial truth.
