Former Sokoto Governor Tambuwal meets Defence Minister over worsening security in Sokoto
Aminu Tambuwal, a former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, along with Abdussamad Dasuki, Deputy Minority Leader, House of Representatives, met with the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa retd., to address the deteriorating security situation in Sokoto State. They specifically highlighted concerns in Kebbe Local Government Area and the Kaya community in Tambuwal LGA. The delegation sought stronger federal intervention, increased security presence, and additional operational resources to protect communities from persistent attacks and restore residents' confidence. Tambuwal emphasized the need for sustained and intensified operations to allow residents to return to their farms and businesses without fear. The Minister of Defence assured the delegation of the Federal Government's commitment to tackling the security challenges and pledged additional resources. Tambuwal welcomed these assurances but stressed the importance of their swift translation into concrete action. The meeting follows renewed security concerns in southern Sokoto, where communities have experienced attacks, killings, displacement, and economic disruption by armed groups, with Kebbe LGA recently facing attacks by suspected Lakurawa militants. Tambuwal affirmed his commitment to engaging authorities until lasting peace is restored.
