Mouhamadou Kanté resigns from ASP, cites political pressure
Mouhamadou Kanté, a former first-class soldier discharged from the army after the March 2021 events, has announced his resignation from the Agency for Proximity Security Assistance ASP, where he served as a controller in the Internal Audit and Control Service. Kanté stated that his departure marks a significant turning point in his career and attributed it to political pressures and considerations. He accused his former political superior of orchestrating an "arbitrary and illegal" measure, which he links to his resignation from a political movement, his reaffirmed support for Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, and his stance in favor of a colleague he believed was a victim of injustice. Kanté questioned the respect for individual liberties and democracy in Senegal, condemning what he described as sanctions motivated by political differences. He emphasized that Senegal belongs to all its citizens and called for respect for everyone's convictions. Despite his departure, Kanté remains confident and believes that "everyone will eventually answer for their actions," asserting that time always reveals the truth.
