
STC bus driver recounts fatal Accra-Kumasi Highway crash, 21 passengers reportedly perished
The driver of an STC bus involved in a fiery crash at the Birimso Bridge on the Accra-Kumasi Highway stated that 21 out of 31 passengers on board reportedly perished. He recounted that only about 10 passengers managed to escape the bus, while the rest were trapped and burned. The Ghana Police Service announced a complete blockade of the N6 Highway, also known as the Accra-Kumasi Highway, following the crash involving a passenger bus, an articulated truck, and a sedan. The incident, which occurred on Monday, August 3, 2026, brought traffic in both directions to a standstill. The Eastern South Regional Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department team from Kibi was dispatched to the scene, and traffic was temporarily diverted through Kibi at Nsutam for Accra-bound motorists and at Apedwa for those traveling towards Kumasi. As of 5:30 PM on Monday, the situation was under control, with fire officers working to extinguish the fire.
