Kenya Airways acting CEO George Kamal resigns, Habil Waswani appointed acting successor
Kenya Airways acting Group Managing Director and CEO Captain George Kamal has resigned from his position, citing personal reasons. He will depart the airline on September 30, 2026, after serving as acting CEO since December 16, 2025. Kamal was previously the chief operating officer for three years and is credited with helping stabilize operations and implement the airline's turnaround strategy. Following his resignation, the Kenya Airways board has appointed Habil Waswani as acting Group Managing Director and CEO, effective September 15, 2026. Waswani currently serves as the airline's company secretary and director of legal services and regulatory compliance, bringing over 24 years of experience as a corporate and commercial lawyer. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a Global Executive Master of Business Administration. The airline's board has also initiated a competitive recruitment process for a permanent Group Managing Director and CEO, which is expected to conclude in the near term. Kenya Airways stated its continued focus on its turnaround strategy to achieve operational reliability, sustainable financial performance, and targeted growth.
