Otumfuo Osei Tutu II reaffirms non-partisan role, commitment to national peace and stability
Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has reiterated his non-partisan stance, stating his role is to collaborate with any government elected by the people of Ghana. During a visit to Canada, as shown in a video shared by Manhyia Palace on X on June 21, 2026, Otumfuo emphasized his dedication to national peace and stability over partisan politics. He noted his history of working with various leaders, including former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, John Atta Mills, John Dramani Mahama, and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Otumfuo mentioned that while some leaders heed his advice and others do not, he refrains from publicizing these interactions. He stated that his guiding principle is to act for the peace and stability of Ghana, despite sometimes being labeled as supporting specific political parties. These remarks were made while Otumfuo served as Special Guest of Honour at the 2026 FIFA World Cup Business Summit in Toronto, where his visit aimed to foster cultural, diplomatic, educational, and business partnerships between the Asante Kingdom, Ghana, and international stakeholders, including the Ghanaian diaspora in Canada. He was accompanied by Canada鈥檚 High Commissioner to Ghana, HE Myriam Montrat, and Ghana鈥檚 High Commissioner to Canada, HE Professor Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh.
