Namibia to host Mercedes-Benz global anniversary drive
Namibia is one of five African countries participating in Mercedes-Benz’s global ‘140 Years. 140 Places’ anniversary journey. This event commemorates 140 years since Carl Benz invented the automobile, with three Mercedes-Benz S-Class vehicles traveling over 50,000 kilometers across six continents to visit 140 locations. The Namibia Tourism Board, Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board, and M&Z Motors Namibia are collaborating to position the country globally. The vehicles will tour the Zambezi region, northern and central Namibia, Windhoek, and the south, including the Fish River Canyon, before a main event in Windhoek. The journey aims to showcase Namibia’s tourism attractions, culture, hospitality, and conservation achievements to international audiences, and promote the country as an investment destination, highlighting opportunities in tourism, infrastructure, mobility, and economic development. NIPDB spokesperson Catherine Shipushu stated that Namibia's inclusion is a significant milestone, presenting the country's landscapes and economic potential to a global audience and strengthening its national brand. M&Z Motors Namibia noted the journey also celebrates its 120-year history in Namibia and 90 years of Mercedes-Benz in the country. The partners will coordinate the route, tourism experiences, filming, and logistics to maximize Namibia’s international exposure.
