
Seven miners die in Plateau State pit collapse
Seven miners died after a mining pit collapsed in the Kassa community of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, on Wednesday evening. Residents reported the incident occurred around 7 PM while miners were working. Albert Danlami, a community member, stated that the victims were trapped underground when the ground caved in, leading to rescue efforts by residents and other miners. The Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed that seven miners lost their lives. Community members, including Timothy Bako, expressed grief and called for government regulation of mining sites, citing a lack of safety measures. Residents are urging the Plateau State Government and relevant agencies to provide support to the bereaved families and enforce stronger safety regulations at mining sites.
