Over 200 lecturers resign from Kaduna State University, ASUU threatens indefinite strike
More than 200 professors and other academic staff have resigned from Kaduna State University KASU due to poor conditions of service and the non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement, according to the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, KASU chapter. The union has issued a two-week ultimatum to university authorities to begin implementing the agreement, warning of a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike if their demands are not met. ASUU-KASU chairman Abubakar Abdullahi stated that the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement, which aims to improve academic staff conditions, took effect in January 2026 but has not been implemented at KASU. He noted that while most federal and several state universities have either implemented the agreement or announced timelines for its implementation, KASU has not. This delay has resulted in KASU academic staff being among the lowest-paid university workers in Nigeria. The union's Congress resolved to declare an industrial dispute and embark on a strike, in line with a resolution from ASUU's National Executive Council. ASUU-KASU also highlighted other local issues, including university autonomy, excessive workload, promotion arrears, death benefits, group life insurance, wage awards, and pension remittances. The union urged university management and relevant authorities to address these issues to prevent industrial disharmony and appealed to parents and stakeholders for intervention.
