Algerian Football Federation narrows national coach search to three candidates
The Algerian Football Federation's National Technical Directorate has concluded its review of candidates for the national coach position, narrowing the shortlist to three names. This list has been submitted to FAF President Walid Sadi. The candidates are Spanish coaches Félix Sánchez and Rafael Benítez, and Belgian coach Tom Saintfiet. Félix Sánchez is the top priority, favored for his high-level training, international experience including winning the 2019 Asian Cup with Qatar, and a philosophy focused on long-term projects and youth integration. His financial expectations also align with the FAF's budget. Rafael Benítez is second, recognized for his prestigious European club career with teams like Valencia, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, but his lack of national team experience and high financial demands are noted as potential obstacles. Tom Saintfiet is the third option, valued for his extensive knowledge of African football, having coached multiple national teams on the continent, including Gambia and Mali. He is considered a pragmatic and secure alternative due to his contractual flexibility and adaptability to African competitions. The FAF is expected to begin official negotiations with Félix Sánchez's representative soon, with the other candidates being considered if an agreement is not reached.
