Alice Wahome demands apology from Aden Duale over alleged 'fisi' remarks
Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has publicly called on Health CS Aden Duale to withdraw and apologize for remarks he allegedly made against the Kikuyu community. Duale is accused of comparing the Somali and Kikuyu communities by population and recounting historical discrimination against Somalis under past administrations. He is also reported to have referred to the 'mountain community' as hyenas, implying greediness. Despite widespread condemnation from Kenyans and senators, Duale has refused to apologize, instead demanding that the National Cohesion and Integration Commission summon him and former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua for tribal remarks. Wahome, in a post on X, stated that Duale's refusal to apologize is indefensible, emphasizing that "two wrongs don't make a right" and urging him to retract his statements and apologize profusely. Senators have warned that such utterances risk pushing the country toward dangerous ethnic tensions, drawing parallels to the 2007 post-election violence.
